The Puerto Rico Center for Environmental Neuroscience will combine faculty and students from the two main research institutions in the San Juan area, UPR Medical Sciences (UPRMS) and UPR Río Piedras (UPRRP) to tackle the mounting environmental problems being created by our rapidly growing population, using the novel approach of combining environmental science and neuroscience. To effectively integrate research and education, we have designed activities that contribute substantially to the development of knowledge in a new area of research, enhance research productivity, and increase the numbers of underrepresented minority students attaining advanced degrees in interdisciplinary science.
